Provisional Registration
A person may apply for provisional registration if the person
has:
-
a recognised four-year degree in psychology or a qualification
the Board deems to be equivalent and is undertaking further
fulltime study to obtain a Master Degree or a qualification the
Board deems equivalent;
-
a
recognised four-year degree in psychology or a qualification the
Board deems to be equivalent and is undertaking employment under the
supervision of a fully registered psychologist approved by the Board.

NOTE:
A person who holds provisional registration as a psychologist must not
practise psychology except under the supervision of a person who holds full
registration as a psychologist under the Act.
Post Graduate
Students Full Registration
The
Board registers graduates with an accredited course work Master of
Psychology degree. The Board also registers some PhD students who it has
deemed are at least of equivalent standing to someone with an accredited
Master of Psychology degree.
They should have completed
satisfactorily course work and supervised placements equivalent to the
professional Masters degree requirements and have completed an
equivalent amount of research to a completed and passed MPsych thesis,
including the presentation and acceptance of a thesis proposal and the
collection of data and some public presentation of results such as a
formal presentation at a professional national conference or a published
paper in a national or international professional journal.
An original letter from the applicant’s university, on letterhead and
signed by the head of school/department, confirming their status must be
provided with the application, containing all the information shown in
the proforma letter produced by the Board.
NOTE: Such applicants will only be
registered if they can demonstrate equivalent status to a fully completed
and conferred professional Masters degree in Psychology such as a Master of Psychology
(Developmental and Educational) or Master of Psychology (Clinical).

University Letter
Psychologists wishing to be restored to the Register
Psychologists previously registered with the Board whose registration
has lapsed, may apply for restoration to the Register.
The Board requires that a
psychologist re-registering in Tasmania must have:
-
practised as a psychologist within the last 5 years, such practice
being of a nature satisfactory to the Board; and,
-
undertaken professional development at Australian Psychology Society (APS)
standard or equivalent.
Any practitioner not meeting these criteria must negotiate a bridging
plan with the Board to enable competent re-entry into the profession.
This plan must be approved by the Board before practice is commenced.

Psychologists registered in another State or
Territory of Australia, or in New Zealand
Psychologists who are registered in another State or Territory of Australia or
New Zealand can apply under the relevant Mutual Recognition Act. An original
document, or a certified copy, evidencing current registration to carry on
the practice of psychology in another State or Territory of registration or
New Zealand must be provided.

Psychologists registered in other overseas
countries
Psychologists registered overseas (with the exception of New Zealand)
are required to provide original Academic Transcripts as well as
certified copies of photo id and an original certified passport size
photo when they lodge their application.
Prospective applicants should contact the
APS
for assessment of equivalence of their qualifications before
lodging their application with the Board. Certification provided
by the APS must be submitted with the application form.
Please
note that eligibility to apply does not guarantee registration will be
granted.
Psychologists wishing to register in Tasmania should note that the
Psychologists Registration Board of Tasmania does not provide employment
assistance. Any requirement for practical training periods must be
attended to personally, as should be longer term employment.
