  2. within 3 years of gaining that qualification or passing that examination –

    (i) completed, to the satisfaction of the Board, an approved pre-registration program; and
(iii) passed an examination set by the Board; and

  3. the person has completed a Workplace Level II first aid certificate.

Graduate Accreditation Program
The Pharmacy Board’s pre-registration program is known as the Graduate Accreditation Program. The current components for this pre-registration year include:

  • Supervised practice for a period of 1748 hours,

  • Completion of  required workshops which include presentations,

  • Completion of online learning modules

  • Production of a practice portfolio,

  • Assessment against entry level competency standards,

  • Assignments,

  • APCAT examination - a national multi choice examination,

  • NFEC examination - a national forensic, calculations and ethics examination.

If a graduate wishes to move interstate to undertake supervised practice they can enrol in the pre-registration course conducted by that State and sit the pre-registration examination conducted by that State.

Graduates wishing to sit the pre-registration examination set by the Pharmacy Board of Tasmania must undertake all components of the Graduate Accreditation Program (including attendance at the GAP blocks). They may undertake their traineeship interstate in a site approved by the Board, but may find the remote completion of the GAP more difficult. In addition, preceptors (supervisors) will not have the benefit of attendance at the preceptor training workshops specifically designed for requirements of the GAP.

Graduates must notify the Pharmacy Board by 30th September of the details of their traineeship. i.e. name and address of pharmacy, name of the supervising pharmacist (Preceptor) and contact details for both. Graduates of the Tasmanian School of Pharmacy who are not intending to undertake the GAP should also notify the Board.

Graduates may commence the traineeship on the day following the date of release of the results of the final examinations necessary for the completion of the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.

The GAP (including the period of supervised practice) must be commenced within 18 months of the release of results of the final examination in the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.

For the purposes of registration, a person may be taken to have gained a qualification once the person has successfully completed the required studies and training, if any, even though the qualification may not have been formally awarded or conferred.
