Requirement for Registration as a chiropractor or osteopath in Tasmania

Under the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Act 1997, the Board may grant registration to a person who:

• has passed a qualifying examination held by a national body;
• has sufficient physical capacity, mental capacity and skill to practise;
• is of good fame and character;
• has an adequate command of the English language; and
• is an Australian citizen or resides in a State or Territory of the Commonwealth.
 
Please note: The Board requires a full current National Police History Check to be submitted with all applications for registration. Please visit the Tasmania Police website for further information and to download the application form.  The fee for the check is $45.00 and is borne by the applicant.
Registration as an Osteopath in Tasmania

There are three avenues for registration as an osteopath in Tasmania.

1. A graduate of an institution accredited by the Australian Conference of Osteopath Registration Boards, who is not currently registered in another State or Territory of Australia or New Zealand, can apply under the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Act 1997. 2. Osteopaths who are registered in another State or Territory of Australia or New Zealand can apply under the Mutual Recognition Act. Please see the Guidelines for Mutual Recognition before downloading the application form here.

3. Overseas qualified osteopaths are required to undertake a qualifying examination which is conducted by the Australian Conference of Osteopath Registration Boards. The Victorian Osteopaths Registration Board conducts examinations on behalf of the Australian Conference of Osteopath Registration Boards. Registration as a Chiropractor in Tasmania

There are three avenues for registration as a chiropractor in Tasmania.

1. A graduate of an institution accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia Inc (CCEA), who is not currently registered in another State or Territory of Australia or New Zealand, can apply under the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Act 1997. 2. Chiropractors who are registered in another State or Territory of Australia or New Zealand can apply under the Mutual Recognition Act. Please see the Guidelines for Mutual Recognition before downloading the application form here.

3. Overseas qualified chiropractors are required to undertake a qualifying examination which is conducted by the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia Inc (CCEA). You should contact the CCEA in the first instance to obtain information about the process for completion of the examination.

Practitioners wishing to be restored to the Register
Chiropractors and Osteopaths previously registered with the Board whose registration has lapsed, may apply for restoration to the Register. Download application form here.  Conditions apply, contact the Registrar for details.

 

Practitioners participating in a conference or training course in Tasmania
Chiropractors and osteopaths registered in another jurisdiction, who are intending to conduct a conference or training course in Tasmania which will involve any hands on practice or demonstration may be exempt from the requirement for registration in Tasmania under section 56(2)(c) of the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Act 1997.

An application to have the conference or training course endorsed by the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Board for the purposes of the Act should be made well in advance of the event.

Code of Professional Conduct
The Board has approved a Code of Professional Conduct for the guidance of practitioners in matter of acceptable standards of practice and conduct in Tasmania.
