The Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation
Board (TLSAB) is the body which assesses the
professional competence of a person seeking registration
to practise as a land surveyor under the provisions of
the Surveyors Act 2002. The requirements for
registration as a land surveyor are stipulated in the
Surveyors Regulations 2003.
A degree in surveying, of itself, does not
entitle an applicant to undertake cadastral surveys,
either in Tasmania or in any of the reciprocating
Australian States, Territories or New Zealand. In
addition to that tertiary qualification, a candidate
must also be able to demonstrate a satisfactory level of
professional understanding and technical expertise in
the application of a theoretical knowledge of surveying
to the specific field of cadastral (boundary)
surveying.
The Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation
Board supervises candidates in their preparation for
accreditation as competent to undertake cadastral
surveys ( and therefore eligible for
registration). Following a period of supervised
practical experience, candidates must submit two surveys
(one rural and one urban) for examination and must also
pass an oral examination.
Candidates may apply to undertake
examinations when they have fulfilled the following
requirements:
- Be registered as a candidate with the
TLSAB;
- Completed a course of study leading to a
degree in surveying that is recognised by the TLSAB as
being suitable for the purpose;
- Obtained the required professional practice
experience;
- Submitted a series of pre-examination
surveys for mentoring purposes.
On successful completion of these
examinations the Board will issue a Certificate of
Competency, which is sufficient for registration as a
Land Surveyor by the Surveyor General.
More information on the requirements can be
obtained from the Guidelines for Candidates (see
downloads and links in sidebar)
